JVS Portraits - Canon 7D + 580EX II + Asymmetrical Stripbank at Canon Live Learning

Canon Live Learning Dallas
The above image was created during my Speedlite Workshop at Canon’s Live Learning stop in Dallas at Bolt Productions. Captured with a Canon 7D, Canon 24-105 f/4 IS lens and was lit with one Canon 580EX II placed inside a Bruce Dorn Select Asymmetrical Stripbank LITE. The stripbank was tripped via an on-camera 580EX II in Master mode via Canon’s E-TTL II technology.

After spending some time with the7D (a sweet camera), I’m convinced, the 7D yields the best E-TTL II flash exposure consistency since shooting with film, seriously.

A HUGE thanks to Canon U.S.A. for allowing me to present and teach at Canon’s Live Learning stop in Dallas. Happy Turkey Day! JVS

JVS Techniques - Location Portrait with Profoto Pro-B2

I’ve been photographing these wonderful girls and their family for the past several years and each year we like to try something new.

For this shoot, we trucked our vintage studio setee on location. Thanks for the scouting and styling Anne!
The Girls
Tech data: This image was created with a Canon 1Ds Mark III, with a Canon 85 1.2L II USM lens, lit with a Profoto Pro-B2 1200ws battery and softened with a Chimera 4×6ft Super Pro Bank. The strobe was fired from camera right (just out of the frame) about 5 feet above the subjects and the B2 was at 1/2 power (600ws).

The RAW .CR2 file was converted with Capture One Pro and finished in Photoshop CS3 with both V1 and the new TR2 - The Revenge from the Totally Rad! action mix masterminds!

If you have any questions or comments, please post em’ here. Thanks! JVS.
