JVS Workshops - New for 2010 - 1 Day Speedlite Workshops + 30 page lighting PDF!

JVS 1 Day Speedlite Workshops
JVS had such a great time teaching at Canon Live Learning last fall that he decided to focus his 2010 Workshops solely on Speedlites.

The Speedlites Workshop is a long, 12 hour day that will be jammed packed full of learning, eating, shooting and more eating:) By the end of the day you’ll be beyond excited about shooting with your Speedlites. You’ll learn to shape your Speedlites with grids, para reflectors, umbrella’s, snoots, gels, softboxes and a beauty dish made specifically for Speedlites.

As a bonus, you’ll receive a 30+ page PDF containing detailed lighting diagrams of everything you’ll shoot along with a gear list that includes every piece of gear you used!

Our next Speedlites Workshop starts on April 6th at our Dallas studio and will be limited to 15 shooters. Ready to up your lighting game? If yes, head over to the Workshops web site and click on “Register.” See ya’ in April!

JVS PWU: SHOOTSAC + Think Tank Photo’s Pixel Pocket Rocket = Perfect Match!

Shootsac and Think Tank PhotoShootsac and Think Tank PhotoShootsac and Think Tank Photo

This is the first of many “PWU (products we use)” reviews that I’ll be adding to the blog in the coming months. Each and every product is something that we (myself and Anne) actually own and use. We’ve owned a gazillion products over the years and only a few have survived our rigorous shoot schedule and travels around the globe. Later this month, we’ll post our review of the “ultimate destination wedding backpack” Think Tank Photo’s rotation360.

First up is a product from our good friend, Jessica Claire. Hipsacks, harness systems and belt packs all have their respected uses (we own a couple) but none of them “fit” us like our SHOOTSAC’s. The SHOOTSAC works great when you want to travel light for a portrait or wedding shoot.

On a typical portrait shoot, the SHOOTSAC houses my Sekonic light meter, digital calibration target, note pad & pen and one additional lens (usually 50/1.2) since my 24-105 IS lives on one of our 5D Mark II’s, an iPhone and two Pixel Pocket Rocket’s are stored in the back pouch closest to the silver SHOOTSAC clip.

80gb’s of SanDisk Extreme IV’s are safely tucked away in two (we own five) Pixel Pocket Rocket’s from Think Tank Photo. Each Pixel Pocket Rocket holds 10 CF cards, has a space for your business card and most importantly, has a short tether for securing the card wallet to your person or in our case, our SHOOTSAC’s. When we’re on location and we’ve wrapped a shoot, we simply remove the Pixel Pocket Rocket’s from our SHOOTSAC’s and clip them to a belt loop…our cards never leave our person.

The SHOOTSAC is a great all purpose, everyday satchel and when paired with Think Tank Photo’s Pixel Pocket Rocket, you have the perfect match! Shooting or not, I sport my SHOOTSAC daily and it has become my manly man-purse :)

Next post, info on our From RAW to WOW! 1 Day Workshop which starts on August 13th at our Dallas studio. We have seats available and we’d love to see you next week! Thanks for reading! JVS

JVS Lighting Workshops - Please join us this October, two dates to choose from!

JVS Workshops - Scott Pickering

We’re hosting back to back 2 Day Lighting Workshops at our Dallas studio this fall! Each Workshop will be limited to a maximum of 15 shooters and a minimum of 10. After teaching a few of these, we’ve realized that 12-15 shooters is the perfect number and allows use to get to know each and every shooter personally.

Dallas in October is the perfect time of year!

“Hi JVS & Anne,

Just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU for everything on the 2 Day Lighting Workshop! It was awesome for you guys to open your studio and let us get the inside story on all the lighting setups and how you work! It was a bit like drinking from a fire hose for me, but that’s a good thing!

All the food, drink, and hospitality was also very much appreciated! I didn’t expect all the goodies, drawings, and Jerry the Canon guy were all big bonuses as well! Please thank your sponsors for me, it helped make your event first class in every way!” -Scott Pickering, ‘09 Workshop Shooter

The above image of Scott Pickering was created with a Canon 5D Mark II, Canon 24-105 IS lens and 1 off-camera Canon 580 EX II.

For more information, please visit the JVS Workshops web site and don’t forget to click “Register” before your leave:) Thank you! Anne & JVS
